Mr. Walter Thomas Pettaway, age 61, departed this life late Sunday evening on May 22, 2022 at VCU/MCV Medical Center from the result of an accident. He was born March 6, 1961, to Walter Lee Pettaway and Glorine Pettaway. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Albert Pettaway.
Walter was a native of Prince George, Virginia and a 1979 graduate of Prince George High School. Anyone that knew “Tommy”, knew that he never met a stranger. He loved fixing things. Tommy also enjoyed time with his family and spending time with his friends.
He was employed at Crater Square Apartments in Petersburg, Virginia. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia.
Walter leaves behind his only son, Antonio Thomas Bowman; grandson, Amari Thomas Bowman; his devoted parents, Walter L. Pettaway and Glorine Pettaway; one sister, Debora Harris (Aarion); one brother, Reginald Pettaway (Anita); two nieces, Chantell Mae (Nate) and Anjelica Harris; two great nieces, Aniyah and Journi; one nephew, Nathan; one great nephew, Grayson; one uncle, Bobby Pettaway (Sharon); four aunts, Gladys Person, Rosa Pettaway, Sarah Pettaway and Pauline Moore; devoted friend, Theresa White (Julius, Ashley, Desmond, David, and Daision); god-sister, Pamela Gray; god-brother, Al Tazewell; devoted cousins, Marvin Pettaway and Ernestine Moore; best friends, Rick and Mike Jones; and a host of cousins and extended family and friends who will cherish his memory and live out his legacy.
Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs, Sr., eulogist.
Family & Friends visitation will be held from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, May 27, 2022 at the funeral establishment.
