Travis R. Thorne answered the master’s call on May 24, 2023. He was born January 7, 1975, to Wallace T. Thorne, Sr, and Juanita Rodgers Thorne. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rev. Joseph J. Rodgers, Sr.; his grandmother, Mary Harvey Rodgers; uncle, Dr. Joseph J. Rodgers, Jr. and his aunt, Hettie R. Kelly.
Travis confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Tabernacle Baptist Church. There, he received further instructions in the Word through Sunday School and other programs. Travis loved reading the Bible and gaining an understanding of the Word.
Travis was a kind and gentle spirit, and prided himself in helping his dad and mom with tasks at home. His kind and loving ways will be missed by all he interacted with. Travis loved spending time with his family, especially his daughter Jaleyah, his brother Wallace, his nephew Dontae and niece Sanai. He loved his hunting adventures with his nephew and the times they spent together. His greatest pride and joy were his daughter Jaleyah and the vacations and family outings that he spent with her. She will always be his “baby girl”.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and caring parents; his loving daughter, Jaleyah Jones-Thorne; devoted and caring brother, Wallace Thorne, Jr.; nephew, Dontae Thorne; caring niece, Sanai Thorne; great nephews, Dash and Dru Thorne; adopted niece, Chrys Darden; sister-friend, Omissa Smith; aunts, Marie Robinson, Dr. Martha R. James (Haywood), Naomi R. Blue, Evangeline Brown, Doretha Jackson, Glenda Hayes (Ronald), Bettie Waller (Marvin), Dorothy Thorne and Geraldine Thorne; uncle, Angelo Thorne (Juanita); and a host of cousins and friends.
Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs, Sr., Pastor and eulogist. The interment to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
