Shirley Ann Johnson Curry

July 31, 1941 – March 2, 2022

Mrs. Shirley Ann Johnson Curry of Petersburg, Virginia, entered eternal rest and peace on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at her residence surrounded by family and friends.

Shirley graduated in 1960 from Peabody High School and later became a Psychiatric Practical Nurse working in the nursing field for over 60 years. Shirley’s employment included: Kenner Army Hospital, Southside Virginia Training Center, and Henderson Mental Health in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She retired Master Sergeant from the U.S. Army with 22 years of service after serving in Desert Storm. She was always an avid traveler and visited Africa, China, Spain, Germany, Amsterdam, and Italy to name a few. 

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie Johnson, Sr. and Mary Dails Johnson; grandmother, Ella Dails; sister, Alice Mae Johnson; her brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Linda Johnson; two aunts, Alice Hale and Lucy Giles; and two uncles, Harvey Johnson and James Harris. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years, William Curry; daughter, Revita Hargrove (Chuck) of Delaware; grandson, Traviss Thomas of Maryland; two sisters, Delores Bland and Mary Johnson both of Petersburg, VA; five brothers, Eddie Johnson, Jr. (Beatrice), Harvey Johnson, William Johnson and Kevin Johnson (Tondra) all of Petersburg, VA, and John Harrison of Washington, DC; one brother-in-law, Roosevelt Curry (Cynthia); and a host of nieces and nephews. Lifetime friends include Effie Smith, Eva Humphrey, and Phyllis Smith of Columbia, MD, Susan Higgins of CA; Brenda Morris of Kentucky, and JoAnn McDuffie of Marina, CA.

Services were held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 201 Walnut Boulevard, Petersburg, VA, Rev. Dwight Nave, eulogist. The interment followed with full Military Honors at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
