April 30, 1943 – March 10, 2023

Ruby Lee Jones, a native of Prince George County, VA, gained her heavenly wings on Friday, March 10, 2023, after fighting a long courageous battle with Dementia. She resided in Hopewell, VA with her daughter who was also her caretaker. Ruby transitioned peacefully with the aid and support from Ms.Irish Morris, her hospice nurse who treated her with much dignity and respect, and her granddaughter, Kemaya Albert. She was born April 30, 1943, to the late John and Martha Allen, of Prince George, VA.

Ruby was preceded in death by her two sons, Calvin and Raylester Sykes; brothers, George, Raymond, and Melvin Allen; and her sisters, Ruth Jones, Hazel Thomas, and Evelyn Taylor.

Ruby accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Hope Baptist Church, Prince George VA. She attended First Baptist Church, Disputanta, VA until her health declined. She retired as a cook at John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell, VA where she dedicated more than 30 years of employment.

Ruby was kindhearted, joyous and generous to all whom came in contact with her bubbly spirit. Her house was always a “go to” place to stay, eat, and have fun. She had plenty of nieces and nephews whom she loved, but Shamiya “Meme” Allen stole her heart. Ruby was known to get her grandchildren on Friday’s. She loved going to yard sales on Saturday mornings. Ruby also enjoyed frying her “good ole fried chicken with mac and cheese” and having a nice cold Pepsi on the side. Her pastime hobbies included completing her word search puzzles, watching Tyler Perry shows which she loved, and watching The Five Heartbeats over and over again until she finally told Danyel she wasn’t going to watch it anymore.

Ruby leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband of 50 years, Barbry Jones; sons, Walter and Titus Sykes; a surrogate son, Shawn Thomas (Fran); daughters, Wanda Sykes and Loretta McCray (Gary); brother, John Allen (Shirley); sisters, Hannah Evans, Anna Williams (Walter) and Barbara Williams; mother-in-law, Nannie Adkin Jones; sister-in-law, Lola Morton; grandchildren, Levar Sykes, Keonte Sykes, Lashae Sykes (devoted), Jerrell Powell, Shavonne Greene, Marcus Sykes, Calvin Sykes, Jr., Trevelle Mondrey, Devon Ennis, Ashanti Sykes, Derion and Deshaun Parker, Taneha Kilpatrick and Gary McCray; a host of great grandchildren, those devoted to name a few, Kemaya Albert, Scionna Allen, Jamalri Herring, Gysiah Alexander, and Brene Osbourne; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
