Deacon Robert L. Evans Jr., affectionately known as Pop, Sonny, Uncle Sonnyboy, Grandpa, and Uncle Robert. He was born on July 28, 1936 (86 y/o) in Surry County, Virginia.

Robert’s childhood past-time included going to Grandpa’s (Burrell) house with his siblings and getting into mischief. After chores they would be running around playing with Grandpa’s buggy, in which they did not have permission to mess with. They would lay cooling it under the porch and scouring for their next mischief. They were big pranksters among themselves. They would bring several food items home from Grandpa’s, such as apples, peanuts, and smoked meat. Once again without permission.

He worked as a farmer to help support his family. At the age of 17 he stood by the road with his lunch in an oatmeal box. Hoping for a better job. Along came Mr. Joseph Wayner, who gave him the opportunity to learn about laying brick/block. In which later led him to become a master brick/block layer. He retired from this trade after 47 years. Robert also became a master carpenter of everything. His past-time was sitting in his shed, wondering what to make next. Mostly working on making walking canes and defense sticks. The current project he was working on, was adding a second addition to his storage shed.

He had a vested pleasure in older model cars and could easily identify any make and model. He also loved to work on cars and lawn mowers and had a collection of both. He owned a collection of guitars , he played and made up his own songs.

They joined Narrow Way Church (COOLJC) where they were baptized and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost, under the leadership of the late Elder James Andrew. Then later joined Mount Calvary (Calvary Temple) Church of our Lord Jesus Christ (COOLJC) in 1981 under the leadership of the late Apostle Wesley Taylor Sr., where he was ordained serving on the Deacon Board.
