Raymond Hansford Conner, Jr (Sonny), 75 of Disputanta, Va, died June 1, 2023. Born and raised in Hopewell, Va, he was the son of the late, Raymond H. and Elizabeth Conner, Sr. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Raymond was a proud Vietnam Veteran (67-69) in the United States Army, 101st Airborne. Raymond had a lifelong love of music, he loved to play his guitar for his family. He was a member of The Chapmans Gospel Band for many years.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Conner was preceded in death by a sister, Doris McNew, three brothers, Michael, Charles and David Conner. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bertha R. Conner of Disputanta; daughter, Yolonda Smith (Steven) of Prince George, daughter, Brenda Balbaugh of Disputanta; grandsons, Trevor Smith, Timothy Smith of Prince George and the apple of his eye, his grandaughter, Clara Conner of Disputanta; sister, Elsie Ward of Hopewell; sister Nancy Benson of McKenney; a brother John Conner (Penny) of Prince George as well as many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T.Morriss & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Duane Guridy, Pastor of Monumental Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Bermuda Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
