April 26, 1973 – August 8, 2023

On August 8, 2023, Raymond Everett Carey, Jr. entered into eternal rest. He departed this earth peacefully at his residence. Mr. Raymond Carey, son of Deaconess Jacquelyn P. Carey and Deacon Raymond Everette Carey, Sr. was born April 26, 1973, in Petersburg, VA.

He was preceded in death by his father, Deacon Raymond E. Carey, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Rev. George Carey and Deaconess Fannie Carey; maternal grandparents, Emmett J. Polk, Sr. and Jewell B. Polk and his cousin-like brother, Cayane David Bruce. 

Raymond leaves to cherish his memory: his loving mother, Deaconess Jacquelyn Carey of Petersburg, VA; devoted soulmate, Sharon Nicole Goodwyn of Franklin, VA; uncles, Rev. Andrew T. Carey (Gloria) of Petersburg, VA, Rev. Joseph Carey (Betty) of Omaha, NE, E. James Polk, Sr. (Martha) Brooklyn, NY, and  John M. Polk (Carolyn); aunts, Gloria Terrell and, Helen Millner (Johnie) both of Petersburg, VA, Inez Bruce of Elizabeth City, NC, Rosemary Kates (Charles) of Petersburg, VA, Susie Cobb of Tennessee, and the Goodwyn Family of Franklin, VA; god-mother, Joan Marsh; god-brothers, Rayheem Shepherd of Texas, Raheem Shepherd of Virginia; god-children, Briana Giles of Petersburg, VA, Akirah Cary, Shelton Cary, Jr. and Myshel Cary of Prince George, VA; god-grandchildren, Zyon and Egypt both Petersburg, VA, cousins, Lolita Millner (Anual) of Houston, TX, Jason Millner (Tiffany) of North Chesterfield, VA, George Terrell (Dena) of Atlanta, GA, Devon Mcburrows of Buffalo, NY, Nefertiti Poyner (Eric) of Elizabeth City, NC, André Carey (Lisa) of Prince George, VA, Jonathan Carey (Brittnay) of Richmond, VA, Cheryl Carey Johnson of Raleigh,NC, Jeryl Carey of  Omaha, NE, Theron Polk of Petersburg, VA, Nikita Nicholas of Henrico, VA, Daniel Kates (Zaviana) of Petersburg, VA, Mignon Polk of College Park, MD, John Polk, Jr. of South Chesterfield, VA, Josh Polk of Lynchburg, VA.  Raymond also leaves behind a host of extended, loving family members as well as many friends; his bonus daughters, Major Julia Riddick (Corey) of Georgia, and Madison Purvy of Franklin, VA, as well as bonus grandchildren Cori and Julian Riddick of Georgia; devoted cousins, James A. Easter (Connie) of Prince George, VA, Darryl, Dewayne, and Dawn Easter all of Richmond, VA.   Raymond loved and was loved and admired by his many little cousins; friends who were like brothers, Shelton Cary, Greg Patrick, Mike Patrick, Sam Parham, and Zack Hopkins;a friend like a sister, Arlene Cary; business partners, (ARK360 Productions, LLC) like family, Antoinette Goodwyn of Franklin, VA, and Karen Ruffin of Maryland; two devoted and much-loved fur babies, Mufasa and Sarabi.

Raymond graduated from Petersburg High School, Class of 1991. He attended North Carolina Central University. He was employed at Central State Hospital for 26 years.  His last position was Trainer Instructor.

Raymond is fondly remembered by friends for his unending sense of humor and his creative mind and abilities. He fraternized, loved and rode proudly with his brothers of Pharaoh Souls Motorcycle Club of Chesterfield, VA. He was a happy member of the motorcycle community. Raymond loved life and lived life to the fullest. He often was the life of the party and brought joy as he entered the room, the hearts, and the lives of others. 

Raymond was called by many names, Buddy, RayRay, Uncle Ray, Mr. Ray, Bawlhedz and others.  He was a Child of God. Raymond knew God and God knew him.  God let us have Raymond for 50 years, 3 months, and 13 days. Time much too short to spend with someone we loved and who loved us.  However, we’re blessed that God let us share this love this long.   

Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs, Sr., Pastor and eulogist.The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.

The family & friends will assemble at the church the day of the service. 

In lieu of floral arrangements the family request that monetary donations be made to the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax Street, Petersburg, VA,  Attn: Building Fund, in memory of  Raymond E. Carey, Jr.
