October 3, 1948  –  July 24, 2023

Rachel Elizabeth Gant, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, peacefully passed away Monday, July 24, 2023, at the age of 74. 

Rachel was born October 3, 1948, to her loving parents, the late Robert White and Rosa Lee Spencer.

She brought boundless love and joy to all who knew her. Her life was filled with kindness, compassion, and a genuine love for her family.

Rachel dedicated her life to caring for her loved ones, ensuring their happiness and well-being. She was a pillar of strength and support, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her selflessness and unwavering commitment to her family were truly remarkable.

She met and married the love of her life, Samuel Gant and their union was blessed with eight children. Their home was filled with laughter, love, and the beautiful chaos that comes with a large family. Rachel was a nurturing mother who instilled strong values in her children and taught them the importance of family bonds.

In addition to her role as a mother, Rachel was a doting grandmother and great-grandmother. She found immense joy in showering her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with love and affection. Her presence was a source of comfort and guidance for each of them.

Rachel was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Samuel Gant, as well as one sister, Annie White, and three brothers, Robert White, Tello White, and Randolph White York. Their memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved them.

Rachel is survived by her children: Tony White (Tanya) of VA, Dr. Stacey Whaley (Walter) of NY, Ingrid White-Shine (Herbert) of VA, Tamika Gant-Abrams (Steve) of GA, Shantel Gant-Soto (John) of PA Crystal Gant of SC, Samuel Gant Jr. of VA, and Jasmine Gant (Raheim) of VA.  She also leaves behind the legacy of 21 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, who will carry on her spirit and love.  Rachel is also survived by her sister, Vera White-Skinner (Ellis) of Creswell, NC, and her brother, Nathaniel White (Gloria) of NY; sister-in-law, Roseanne White; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Her impact on their lives will never be forgotten.

Rachel’s favorite saying was “I Love you More.”  She will be deeply missed. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am, Saturday, August 5th, 2023 at the chapel of Bland Funeral Home, 137 Harrison Street, Petersburg.  Interment will follow  at 1pm, Monday, August 7, 2023 in Southlawn Memorial Park, Petersburg.  Public Visitation will be held from 10am-7pm, Friday, August 4th, 2023 at the funeral home.
