February 29, 1928 – May 17, 2023

Mrs. Pearl Louise Hill peacefully departed this life at her residence on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. Mrs. Hill was born on February 29, 1928, to the late Deacon Harvey R. Hill and Mrs. Pearl A. Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Andrea J. Hill; grandparent, Mrs. Martha Goodwyn; sisters, Martha Stinson, Geneva Starks, Edith Watkins, and Frances Parham; brothers, Henry Hill, Sr. and Wilmer Hill, Sr.; granddaughter, Vaughn “Shavone” Tate; and son-in-law, Edward Holmes.

She was born and raised in Prince George County, VA and received her education at Disputanta Training School. She attended Virginia State College where she focused on administrative coursework including typing and secretarial work leading to a position at Defense General Supply Center formerly known as Bellwood where she did stenciling and labeling in the Export Packing Section of the Shipping Division. She retired after 22 years of federal service.

At an early age she confessed Christ as her Savior and became a member of Providence Baptist Church, Prince George, VA.

Pearl met and married James E. Hill on December 4, 1948. As a result of this loving union, they were blessed with seven beautiful daughters.
Mrs. Hill joined her husband and became a member of Union Branch Baptist Church, Prince George, VA. Mrs. Hill diligently served on the Deaconess Board, Missionary Circle and Senior Choir. She was a Library assistant and an advisor to the Youth Choir. Mrs. Hill served for several years on the Church Anniversary Committee. She was an avid attendee of Sunday School, Prayer Service, Bible Study, Vacation Bible School and the Prince George Sunday School Union. She also represented Union Branch as a delegate to the Bethany Baptist Association. Pearl was a lifetime member of the NAACP and served on the Prince George Grand Jury for over a decade. Mrs. Hill was a member of the Prince George General Assembly where she played an integral part in organizing the many trips and events they sponsored. Pearl was the first female president of the Prince George chapter of the NAACP. Under this tenure, Mrs. Hill was invited to Washington, DC by Donald Anderson to attend the White House Conference on Food, Nutrition and Health in recognition of her contributions in getting the food stamp and commodity program passed in Prince George County. Mrs. Hill was a member of the Voter’s League and Prince George Democratic Committee where she served as a campaign officer; during which time she planted seeds in her young grandchildren on the importance of voting, getting others to register to vote and being a part of the process leading up to voting. Mrs. Hill was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a loving husband of 74 years, Deacon James E. Hill; daughters, Sandra Holmes, Jean (Jae) Tillman, Faye Terry, Kaye Hunt (Sterling), Debbie Bryant (Algier Jr.) and Angela Hill; grandchildren, Marvin Davis, Jr., Terrance Price (Sannita), James Price (Safiya), Timesha Holman (Warren), Tyrone Terry (Summer), Sterling Hunt, Jr. (Myisha), Tramell Tillman, Andrea Hunt, Solomon Hunt, Sr. (Shanta), Dezaray Brown, Aaliyah Frizzel, Algier Bryant III, Darius O. Bryant; twenty-eight great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pearl loved sewing and knitting, gardening, cooking, shopping and traveling. She mostly loved the Lord so much so that she and her husband opened their home to host weekly community Bible study. Her favorite one liners to her daughters were “None of your business!” and to balance things out “I love you more!”

Mrs. Hill exuded a vibrant and contagious personality, bringing joy and happiness to whomever she met. Her religious and community affiliations were widespread, and her life was devoted to her family, her community and her friends. She will be sadly missed by her family.
