Patsy Ann Gee McLaughlin, 73, of Colonial Heights, VA, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 7, 2023 at her home. Patsy was born on February 25, 1950 in Petersburg, VA, to the late Eddie and Dorothy Gee.
Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Q. McLaughin; parents, Eddie and Dorothy Gee; grandparents; Mary Ruth Coleman Pritchett and William Pritchett, Sr.; sister, Angelor Gee Salih and her brother-in-law, Roy Carter.
She is survived by her loving children, daughter, Veronica Tippett (John) of McLean, VA and son, Shawn McLaughlin of Colonial Heights, VA; her only grandchild, MaryGrace Tippett of McLean, VA. Patsy is also survived by her siblings, Alice Williams (Howard) of Petersburg, VA, Diane Carter of Westwood, NJ, and Daniel Braddix (Roxanne) of Cedar Ridge, CO; devoted friend, Earnest Blizzard; nieces and nephews, Tonia (Cleon), Romande (Malika), Martese, Sonya (Tony), Jenicka, William Jr., Nathaniel, and Jaidree; uncle, William Pritchett of Brooklyn, NY; aunts, Edith Higgins of Upper Marlboro, MD, Jacqueline White of Petersburg, VA, and Valerie Pritchett of Petersburg, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Patsy was a 1968 graduate of Peabody High School and went on to receive a degree from John Tyler Community College (Brightpoint Community College). She was employed by Central State Hospital, retiring after over 30 years of service and later employed for 15 years at Poplar Springs Hospital. Patsy was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church on Byrne Street in Petersburg VA, serving in various capacities.
Most notably, Patsy started the No Child Left Behind Afterschool Program and made numerous trips to the Baptist General Convention. During her brief illness, with love and guidance from her longtime pastor and friend Rev. White, she joined Mt. Hope Baptist Church in Prince George, VA where she was welcomed with open arms.
Patsy enjoyed serving the residents of Claiborne Square, where her mother lived for many years as well as taking bus trips to casinos. Patsy was also known for baking her “famous” lemon and coconut tarts. She loved her beloved pitbulls, and most importantly spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.
Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 19, 2023, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Andrew J. White, Sr., eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
