Mrs. Nancy Hamlin Gilliam, 73, transitioned from labor to reward on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Chippenham Hospital. She was born on April 12, 1949, to Elise and Harvey Hamlin of Chesterfield, VA. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member at Brown Grove Baptist Church. Nancy served on the Usher Board, participated as a Junior Missionary, and was a member of the Gospelettes Chesterfield Choral Ensemble. She also sang with Sahara E. Nelson at First Independent Methodist Church. Nancy loved to sing for the Lord.
Nancy attended Carver High School in Chester, VA. Upon completing high school, she furthered her career and became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She worked as a CNA for numerous years and dedicated her life to caring for others. Nancy enjoyed shopping, thrifting, crafting, sewing garments, traveling, baking, and spending quality time with family. She also loved watching Perry Mason. She will be remembered as an outspoken, courageous, loving, lively, compassionate, fashionable, humorous, and Godly woman.
Nancy Hamlin Gilliam was preceded in death by her grandparents, Wille and Lelia Crew; mother and father, Elise and Harvey Hamlin; and her brother, Roosevelt Allen Hamlin.
Nancy is survived by her beloved daughter, Michelle P. Hicks (Nicholas); son, William R. Gilliam Jr.; grandchildren, Kaprice Jackson (Mikel), Darien Gilliam, Devin Gilliam and Jasmine Hicks; and great-granddaughter, Harper Jackson (The apple of her eye). She also leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted siblings, Deacon Maryjane Trent, Rev. Clementine Robinson, Katherine Hancock (Stewart), Min. Essie Sykes, Lelia Friend (Pastor Ralph), Lazarus Hamlin, Sr. (Rev. Jacqueline), H. Stuart Hamlin (Shona), LaMont Williams, and Cynthia Williams. She also leaves behind her uncles, Lazarus Crew and Vivian Turner; aunts, Marie Austin, Willie Mae Crew and Florence Crew; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Brown Grove Baptist Church, 12816 Bailey Bridge Road, Midlothian, VA, the Rev. Ricardo A. Haynes, Pastor. The interment to follow at Brown Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
