February 25, 1949 – June 14, 2023

Myrtle Smith passed away on June 14, 2023, in Petersburg, VA.  She was born on February 25, 1949, to Robert L. and Myrtle E. Taylor in Prince George, VA.

Myrtle better-known as “Lukie”, went to the Public Schools in Hopewell, VA, and graduated from Hopewell High School in 1967.  Myrtle was employed at Verizon Telephone Company where she remained for 30 years until her retirement in 1998. She later worked part-time as a Telephone Operator at John Randolph Medical Center.  

She was a devout member of Higher Way Ministries in Petersburg, VA, under the leadership of Bishop Darren L. Gay, Sr.

Lukie enjoyed movies and traveling.  She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. and Myrtle E. Taylor; son, William H. Jones, Jr.; brothers, Robert L. and James E.; and her sister, Catherine T.

Lukie leaves behind Princess and Samuel Williams whom she loved as a daughter and son-in-law; several nieces and nephews, Jeanna, Willie, Chantell (Glen), Charmane, ArLisa, Anthony (Beonca), Andre and Shawn; devoted cousin, Jeraldine Neal; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; along with numerous cousins and friends, including two devoted friends, Toni George and Brenda Rorie; in addition, Marvin, Angelo and Marlo who was thought of and loved like her grandchildren.

Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 23, 2023, at Higher Way Ministries, 515 Virginia Avenue, Petersburg, VA, Bishop Darren L. Gay, Sr., Pastor, eulogist. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
