Ms. Gloria D. Armstrong, of Richmond, VA., entered into a peaceful rest on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Winthrop Manor Nursing Home.
Gloria Davis Armstrong was born February 24, 1953 to William Davis and Mattie Burrow Davis in Stony Creek (Sussex County) Virginia. She was the youngest of two children. She was baptized at an early age at Little Bethel Baptist Church in Dinwiddie, VA.
Gloria attended Petersburg Public Schools and was a proud graduate of Petersburg High School’s Class of 1971. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Morgan State University in 1977. Upon graduating, she moved to Houston, Texas, her home away from home, and later began working for NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration).
Gloria was a social butterfly and enjoyed engaging with her classmates, family and friends. She was passionate about her family, her community, and of course math and science. Gloria was always a big advocate for technology and made sure to stay current with the latest devices. Gloria also loved to cook and self-authored a cookbook called Key Ingredients to Loving Yourself.
Gloria earned her heavenly wings on the morning of Wednesday, July 6, 2022. She was preceded in death by her father, William Davis and her mother, Mattie Burrow Davis.
She leaves to celebrate her life and fondest memories, her beloved son, Kernis Armstrong of Baltimore, MD; sister, Celestine Hicks of Chester, VA; nephew, Rodney Hicks (Jennifer) of Midlothian, VA; great-niece Jazmin Hicks of Harrisonburg, VA, and aunt, Justine Burrow Jackson of Petersburg, VA, along with a host of cousins, friends, and classmates.
Memorial service will be held 11 A. M., Saturday, July 16, 2022 at the Chapel of Bland Funeral Homes, 137 Harrison St., Petersburg, VA., 23803, Rev. Calvin Lewis , Sr., eulogist.
