Mr. Moses Hill, 94, formerly of Hopewell, VA., departed this life Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Hunter McGuire Veteran Hospital. He was born to the late Archie and Louise Hill on September 5, 1927 in Prince George, VA.
He was a 1945 graduate from Carter G. Woodson of Hopewell, VA. After high school he was drafted in the United States Army and was in the Korean War. After an honorable discharge from the Army he moved to Brooklyn, NY. He retired from the city of New York and a local trucking company.
Moses was baptized in Hopewell at a church on Berry Street. He kept his mother’s bible reading one of her favorite scriptures from Exodus 20:17. “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord the God giveth thee”.
He leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Sam Hill of New York and Kenneth Hill, Sr, of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Cynthia (Bill) Coleman of West VA; grandson, Kenneth Hill, Jr. of Dillsburg, PA; three grandchildren; very devoted sister-in-law, Mildred Hill; devoted caregiver since 2011, Joann Saunders Watts; among his nieces one devoted, Dianne Hill and Louise Hill from Brooklyn, NY; among the nephews one devoted, James “Peabody” Hill and Solomon Hill, Jr. (Wanda); daughter-in-law, Angela Hill from Charlottesville, VA; cousins from Stony Creek, Queen Mason (Sam), Mary Hill, Ester Sorrols, Daisey Brown from Petersburg, and New York.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors of McGuire Veteran Hospital for their excellent care, Ms. Virgie Crews and Chaplain Vurns.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Calonia Orgain, Beatrice Hawthorne, Mary ruth Bland, and Lucy Wynthum; and brothers, George, Archie, Sylvester, and Deacon Solomon Hill, Sr, Sr.
Private service will be held at the family request. Interment to follow at Amelia’s Veteran Cemetery.
