November 18, 1957 – July 23, 2023

Michael Thomas Smith, age 65, of South Chesterfield, Virginia, gained his angel wings on Sunday July 23, 2023, at his residence. Michael was the youngest of two born on November 18, 1957, in Petersburg, Virginia to the late Elder Eddie and Thelma Smith.
Michael, better known as “Mike,” received his formal education in the Petersburg City Public School System, graduating from Petersburg High School in 1976. He then went on to attend Virginia State University where he graduated with a Bachelors in Individuals Studies in 1988.
Michael was a proud member of the OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY, INCORPORTATED of the Delta Omega Chapter in Petersburg, Virginia. Michael began his Civil Service career at The Defense General Supply Center (Bellwood), where he served until, he made the decision to retire after 34 years of outstanding service.
Michael was one who people loved being around. He loved his cars, music and sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, as he was a true and loyal fan and playing pickup basketball games until he was 63.
Michael also loved playing the piano. He first started playing at his home church Gethsemane Apostolic continuing to improve his music skills. Michael also played for various churches throughout the Tri-Cities. For the last several years he was the pianist for Center Star Baptist Church.
Michael leaves to cherish a lifetime of memories a devoted wife of 27 years, Pamela Brown-Smith; one loving and devoted daughter, Lenora A. Harley (Nathan) of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; one grandson, Christopher Michael Harley of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; one brother, Eddie W. Smith, Jr. (Debbie) of North Chesterfield, Virginia; stepmother, Bertha Smith; three sisters-in-law, Debbye K. Myrick (Tim) of Blackstone, Virginia, Francis Brown of Richmond, Virginia, and Roxie Smith of South Chesterfield, Virginia, one brother-in-law, Alexander Brown, Sr. (Tiffany) of Prince George, Virginia; one aunt, Obena Anderson (Reverend Dr. Herbert) of Petersburg, Virginia; a devoted niece, Kyrus N. Smith of North Chesterfield, Virginia; three cousins who were close like siblings, Janet Edwards, Sharlene Wrenn (Raymond) and Kenny Wyatt; (Sherry); loving and devoted friends, James Battle (Felita) and Harvey Archie; and a host of nieces, nephews, many dear cousins, colleagues, relatives, and countless friends.
Services will be held 12 Noon, Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Center Star Baptist Church, 11627 Wheelers Pond Road, Dinwiddie, VA, the Rev. Dr. Larry R. Cooper, Pastor, eulogist, and Rev. Alphonso Byrd, eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
There will be no public viewing for Mr. Smith.
