Ms. Mary Ann Johnson Manson, 79, of Petersburg, VA, departed this life on Friday, May 26, 2023. Mary was born September 3, 1943, in Dinwiddie County, VA to the late Lucille C. Gresham-Johnson and James Benjamin Johnson.

Mary was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley V. Johnson; two brothers, James A. Johnson and William E. Johnson, Sr.; and son-in-law, Pastor Mark McCombs.

Mary was a member of First Baptist Church, Petersburg, VA. She was educated in the Dinwiddie County Public School System. She was trained at Southside Virginia Training School as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and was an employee of Central State Hospital in Petersburg, VA. 

Mary leaves to cherish her everlasting memories: four children, Mary V. Ruffin of Houston, TX, Roslyn R. McCombs of Plainfield, NJ, Dushone E. Walker of Petersburg, VA, and Janel Johnson-Thomas (Johnny) of Buford, GA; thirteen grandchildren, Quentin Mensah, Joshua Martin, Blake Martin, Aaron McCombs, Calah McCombs, Jeremy McCombs, Destiny McCombs, Jmarious D. Gilmore, Sr., Tiashley Thomas, Jonathan Thomas, Taylore Thomas, Jonte Thomas and Jashon Thomas; four great grandchildren, Lia Benefield, Laurel Martin, Jamarious Gilmore, Jr., and Josiah Gilmore; one sister, Thelma Johnson of Petersburg, VA; one brother, Wilbert D. Johnson, Sr. (Deloris) of Houston, TX; nephews, William Johnson, Jr., Dexter Johnson, James Johnson, Jr., Christopher Johnson and Wilbert Johnson, Jr.; nieces, Shirley Johnson, Delphine Johnson, Jacquelyn Johnson, Tasha Young and Lucolia Mayfield; great nieces, Chanel “Peachy Poo” Johnson,  Kayland Huckaby, Brianna Stewart, Tiara Moody, Asia Johnson, Demetria Johnson, Ja’mes Johnson and Octavia Hines; great nephews, Bryce W. Johnson (Vesal), Brannon W. Johnson, Wayland Huckaby, Jr. (Ashley), Bradley W. Johnson, Devon Saunders, Shawn Saunders, Jayrick Johnson, Maurice Smith, Isaiah Taylor, Jihad Ruffin and Armarion “AJ” Mayfield; Treondiah Skipper and Teondiah Skipper, Joey Copeland, Sr., Tyrone M. Johnson, Jr. and Arnell Scott, Jr.; great-great nieces, V’tessa Watson, Kayla Johnson and Samaria Williams Watson, Ava Taylor Aziah Taylor, Armonie Brown, Zariyah Mayfield, Teahjhe Johnson, Ta’Shyiah Walker, Amiyah Moody, Azuri Moody, Azari Moody, Arielle Massenburg and Aura Green; great-great nephews, Quincey Mayfield, La’nell White, Joey Copeland, Jr. and A’jaye Massenburg; a host of great-great-great nieces and nephews among those she cherishes dearly, Eliyjah Johnson and Chaniyah Johnson; cousins, Beatrice Frazier, Nannette Wiggins, Donald Griffin, Michael Griffin (Lani) and Charlotte Griffin; devoted friends, Rita Walker, L. D. Brown and Burnadette Jones; and a host of other relatives and friends too numerous to name.

Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, June 17, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 236 Harrison Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Tillman, Pastor and eulogist. The interment to folow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, June 16, 2023 at the funeral establishment.
