September 29, 1926 – April 17, 2023

Marian Ruth Moore was born in Petersburg, Virginia to the late Marian and Henry Lee. She was the older child born to that union which included a sister Constance Williams (deceased).  She was educated at Peabody High School and Virginia State College and trained in nursing at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.

She began her nursing career at Central State Hospital in Petersburg, Virginia soon after her 1954 graduation. There, she worked in almost every specialty area in her 32-year career during which she also worked on a part-time basis at Petersburg General Hospital.

In 1964, she married the love of her life Joe M. Moore (deceased) and was a loving mother of five children. All survived her except Jacqueline Diane Lee. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church where, for many years, she was an active member of many organizations including: the B. R. Powell Sunday School, Senior Ladies Usher Board, Maude E. Taylor Memorial Club, M. M. Clarke Circle, Nurses Guild, and the Deaconess Board. She was also a member of the Petersburg Chapter #33 Eastern Star, Heroines of Jericho, and Club Magaton.

Her survivors include: children, Constance Anderson, Carl Lee, Sr. (Gayle), Afemo Omilami (Elizabeth), Barbara Wiggins (Claude); grandchildren, Stephanie Garnuette, Claudia Samuel (David), Carl Lee, Jr., Kobie Drew (Robinette), Awodele Omilami (Tara), and Juanita Ramey. She was loving godmother to Gwendolyn Williams and great grandmother to 14 great-grandchildren and devoted Aunt Ruth to her many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 21, 2023 at First Baptist Church, 236 Harrison Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Tillman, Pastor, eulogist.  The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
