Our hearts were saddened with the passing of our loved one, due to a short illness Ms. Lela (Lucy) Howard ,85 entered eternal rest on Monday February 20, 2023. She was born to Mr. Joseph and Gracie Clements.
Ms. Lela Howard worked 30 plus years at Honeywell, being an instructor before retiring to go on and help her community by serving as a lead administrator of Hopewell Boys and Girls Club. Then on to the Youth director for Hopewell Housing. Giving of her time to the Lord at Friendship Baptist Church being active in the Youth department as well as the Usher board. She was a past worthy matron of Lily of the Valley #44 PHA, former Elks Member and a basketball player for Peabody Highschool Girls team of 1955.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Trina Clements, two brothers James Clements, Sr., Julius Clements and a sister-in-law Ola V. Clements, a nephew Melvin Clements and great niece Marquita Spratley.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters Monite Jones-Carlisle and Rosalyn Capers both of Hopewell, VA; an adopted daughter, Sharon Napper of Prince George, VA; five grandkids, Jasmine Capers, Rostrinique Drummond, Terrill Jones (Deanna), Joseph (Maliek) Jones, Trandon Tyler; sixteen great grandchildren
Machi Jones, Arvinique Berry, Charlie Jones, D’Ericka Taylor, Marvin Jr Berry, KaRhon Jones, Leanah Tyler, Roman Jones, KyAhree Jones, K’Anah Jones, Heaven Davis, R’riyana Tyler , Yashine’ (YaYa) Capers, Akoi Jones, Rylann Tyler and Scott Jones; one nephew James Clements Jr. and two great nephews, Jason and Caleb Brown. Special grandchildren the Napper kids; one childhood schoolmate Susie Gholson. Near and dear friends Donna Outley, Mary Catherine Spratley, and Angelina Gibbs; and a host of many cousins from North Carolina, Virginia, other relatives and friends.
Homegoing service will be held 11 A. M., Monday, February 27, 2023 at Friendship Baptist Church, 1305 Arlington RD., Hopewell, VA 23860, Rev. Dr. Norwood Carson, Pastor, eulogist.
