January 27, 1947 – August 10, 2023

God, with His infinite wisdom and caring heart, called his daughter, Juanita Reaves Beard, home in the early morning of Thursday, August 10, 2023. Her last days were spent at TriCities Hospital, Hopewell, VA, Wonder City Rehabilitaion and Nursing Home, Hopewell, VA, and Chippenham Hospital, Richmond, VA.

Juanita was the “baby girl” to her proud parents, the late Junious and Gracie Young Reaves of Hopewell, VA. She attended Hopewell Public Schools and graduated in 1965 from Carter G. Woodson High School. She joined the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at an early age where she later joined the choir, served on the Evangelism Ministry and was Chairperson of the Hospitatility Committee for many years.

Juanita was employed with and retired from Ft. Lee Army Base (now Ft. Gregg-Adams) in the Food Services group, where she received accolades and awards for her service and work ethics. She was a warm and caring person to her family, church family and friends. She continued her mother’s tradition of cooking a big family dinner at Christmas until her health declined.

Juanita was preceded in death by her son, Sean Len Beard; brothers, Daniel, Howard, Walter “Jack”, and Robert Reaves; and her sisters, Irene Matthews, Inez Taylor and Louise Houston.

Juanita leaves to cherish her memories: a devoted daughter, Schellie Evette Beard; granddaughter, Chaney Grace Beard; loving and devoted sister, Hattie Bethune; brother, Thomas “Bunny” Reaves (Eva); devoted sister-in-law, Bernice Reaves; caring and devoted nieces, Dorothy Coleman, Michele Branch and Stephanie Goodrich; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
