February 21, 1967 – March 22, 2023

Joyce Ann Barnes, also known as “Ann:, transitioned peacefully at home in Hopewell, VA, on March 22, 2023, to be with her father God who she loved.  Ann was born to Ernest Lee Barnes and the late Dorothy Lee Barnes on February 21, 1967, in Baltimore, MD. Ann lived in Hopewell, VA, and was married to Nadie Jones, Jr.

Ann worked at Fort Lee for numerous years until her health declined.  She accepted Jesus as her Savior at an early age. She attended Faith and Hope Temple in Petersburg. She later joined Bibleway Christian Center where she served faithfully.

Joyce was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Barnes; three siblings, Ernest Barnes, Jr., Dawn Lynette “Lady” Barnes, and Diane Maria Walker; and one  niece, Nakia S. Barnes.

Joyce Ann Leaves to cherish her precious memories to her four courageous children, Joy L. Barnes (Quincy Massenburg), Diane M. Barnes (Corey Jackson), Renae D. Barnes (Demonte Tucker) and Kenneth L. Barnes (Kimberly Garcia); twelve beautiful grandchildren, Deshawn (Sade), Dorothy, K’vyontae, Patrick “Peedy”, Ka’Mari, Dynajah, Jacoby, Kenneth Jr., Darrell, Destiny, Kassidy and Ki’aan; two beautiful great grandchildren, Joseph and Savannah Barnes; her father, Ernest Barnes (Judy) of South Carolina; sisters, Perry Randle, Deborah Lee, and  Willaden Barnes; brother, Weldon Dawson of Baltimore, MD; brother-in-law, John Walker, Jr.; nieces, Lequita, Starr, Erica, Ashley, Brittany and Walkita; nephews, William, Ardonis (Terrica), and Jamara; one godchild, Tyquan Malik Holloway; devoted best friends, Michele and Alexander Gilchrist; and a host of friends from the Halcun Manor and Pin Oaks Community especially Shelonda Green, Terry Taylor, Robin Woody, Rose Holloway and Juanita Lewis.

Joyce was a loving, loyal caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and devoted friend. She loved music, fishing, dancing and everyone knew she definitely loved to clean.  She opened her home and heart to all the neighborhood children, where she kept them actively involved in her community.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, April 1, 2023, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA.
