July 21, 1941 – February 28, 2023
On February 28, 2023, Joyce answered her Master’s call and peacefully took her journey from labor to eternal rest. Joyce was born July 21, 1941, to Joseph Allen, Sr., and Geneva Jones Goode. She confessed Christ and was baptized at the Good Shepherd Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated member who worked diligently with the finance ministry of the church.
She graduated from Peabody High School in 1959 and later attended Virginia State College (University),where she earned an Associate Degree in Secretarial Studies. She later continued her education and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree while working in the financial office of the college.
Her employment includes Virginia State College (University) and Good Shepherd Baptist Church. She retired from both places but saw fit to volunteer her services to the financial department of Good Shepherd Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death are her parents, grandparents both maternal and paternal; sister, Muriel; brothers, William and Marcial Goode.
Joyce is survived by two children, daughter, Tonya Goudy Brown (Naim) and son, McHan Goudy (Candy); six grandchildren, two girls, Tremia and Preshyara Goudy and four boys, Treon Goudy, Joshua Karpeh, Abdul-Saboor Brown, and Anwar Brown and five great grandchildren. Joyce is also survived by two sisters, Saundra Fleming and Jeanette Watts; one brother, Joseph A. Goode, Jr. (deceased March 2, 2023); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Joyce had a sharing heart and would willingly feed the hungry. She loved to travel, fellowship with family eat good food and work puzzles.
Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2223 South Crater Road, Petersburg, VA, Bishop Jeffrey L. Reaves, Sr., Pastor, eulogist. The interment to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
