May 24, 1950 – May 10, 2023

John “Honeybee” Crittendon peacefully departed this life at his home on May 10, 2023. He was born on May 24, 1950, in Petersburg, Virginia to the late Emily Raines and George Crittendon.

John was a hero. He fought for our country in the Vietnam war in 1969 until 1972. John took pride in fighting with his fellow soldiers and was a proud veteran. After retiring from the U.S. Army, he continued to be a soldier and hero for his family.

John had a passion for music, which he passed down to each of his children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and playing his infamous lottery tickets.

Mr. Crittendon was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Crittendon; daughter, Quantina Hargraves; grandsons, Tyreion “Big Boy” Crittendon and Marcellus Crittendon; sister, Doris Walker; and his niece, Kathy Mason.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Sheree Crittendon, Charni Howard and John Hargraves; grandchildren, Jokayla Bugg, SGT Antonio Jones, Michael Jones, Hasan Law, Derion Law, Ashaunta Crittendon, I’asia Crittendon, D’Quandre Crittendon, Terrell Davis, Quantasia Scott and Matthew Scott; great grandchildren, Zaria Houston, Capreece Smith, Jr., Layonna Walker and MaKynzi Jackson; brothers, Vernon L. Crittendon and Highland Crittendon; nieces, Wanda Walker Street and Karen Moye; nephews, Boone Walker, Jamar Mason, Highland Crittendon, Jr. and Vernon Mason; brothers-in-law, Stanley Hargraves, George Hargraves and Larry Hargraves; sister-in-law, Ernistine Graham (Alvin); and a host of other relatives and friends.

A special thanks to John’s caregiver, Beyonce James for her loved and cared shown to our loved one.

Services will be held 3:00 P.M., Saturday, May 20, 2023, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Herbert Holly II, eulogist. The interment will be held 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.J.M.
