September 11, 1931 – April 9, 2022
Honie Clifford Harrison Givens, “Dedie”, age 90, of North Prince George, VA, gained his wings on Saturday, April 9, 2022. He was born on September 11, 1931 to the late James Garrett and Rosa Lee Givens in Stony Creek, VA. At an early age, he became a member of Hassidiah Baptist Church of Jarratt. He was educated in the Sussex County Public School System and continued his education in the Hopewell City Public School System. He was a very hardworking man and worked various jobs in farming, lawn care, and construction until he retired.
Affectionately known as Dedie; he loved riding in big old school cars, planting gardens, fishing, and stopping by friends’ houses to talk and enjoy a shot or two of Canadian Mist. He always had a good story about back in the old days and left us with a lot of knowledge of who our ancestors were.
When his health declined, he moved in with his devoted daughter, Debra Givens and devoted grandson, Kadair Givens. They lovingly and faithfully cared for him for over 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith B. Givens; stepchildren, Jessie Mae Parham and Robert Timms; and grandsons, Carlos Givens and Raekwon Givens. Honie leaves behind five children, Debra A. Givens of North Prince George, Clifton Givens, Sr. (Regina) of Charlotte, NC, Rosa L. Givens-Jones of Hopewell, Kirt H. Givens of Ettrick, and Norman L. Givens (Alice) of Carrollton. He is also survived by twelve loving grandchildren, Ricardo Givens, Mark Givens, Shalanda Blanding, Kirt Berry, Coreyll Smith, Morgan Jefferson (devoted), Clifton Givens, Jr., Octavious Taylor, Kurshawrd Givens, Kadair Givens (devoted), Mi’kilia Taylor, and Keturah Givens; twenty-three great grandchildren; five devoted cousins, Lucille Darden and Lena McKethon both of Emporia, Pauline Bonner of Stony Creek, Barbara Jean Massenburg of Petersburg, and David Thorne of Jarratt; and a longtime devoted friend; Thomas Point of Hopewell.
