Gwendolyn Laverne Williams was born in Petersburg, VA on November 18, 1950. She departed this life on July 13, 2023.
Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her father, Walter Clarence Williams, Sr.; mother, Constance Elizabeth Williams; brother, Walter Clarence Williams, Jr.; brother, Gilverto Fernando Williams, Sr.; sister, Venessa Lynette Goode; and aunt/godmother, Marian Ruth Moore.
Upon graduating from Maggie L. Walker High School, Gwendolyn attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College where she received a degree in Secretarial Science.
Gwendolyn was a devoted employee at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center for 25 years where she received the Department of Veterans Affairs Performance Award for Superior Performance. Additionally, she worked for several years in medical offices of prominent physicians in the Richmond area. After retirement, Gwendolyn enjoyed traveling with her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Gwendolyn loved the Lord. She was a shepherd who led many members of her family to Jesus Christ. She was a devoted member of New Deliverance Evangelistic Church where she enjoyed bible study and the teachings of Bishop Gerald O. Glenn and Pastor Marcietia S. Glenn.
She is survived by her two children, Odetta Tamu Wright (Anthony) and Joseph Williams (Alexaundra); grandchildren, Joseph F. Williams and Jianna L. Williams; two devoted sisters, Dr. Deborah Ransom (Robert) and Elder Zelda Dugger (William); one brother, William Lee (Monica); loving godchildren, April Segree and Desmond Dugger; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
Services will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, July 22, 2023, at New Deliverance Evangelistic Church, 1701 Turner Road, Richmond, VA, Pastor Marcietia S. Glenn, eulogist. The interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Public viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
