January 2, 1962  –  June 3, 2023

Mr. Garland S. Gilliam, of Hopewell departed this life on Saturday, June 3, 2023. He was born on January 2, 1962 to the late Gladys M. Gilliam.

Garland was educated in the Hopewell School system. He was a sports enthusiast  for all games, but his passion was for the Pittsburg Steelers, Pirates (baseball) and the  Pinguins (hockey). I guess you could say all his teams started with the letter “P”.  When he could he would visit Church of Christ-Arlington Road.

He was preceded in death by, his mother, cousin, Fernando Strickland, two uncles, Nathaniel and Nick Gilliam, and grandmother, Ethel Gilliam.

He leaves to cherish the memories, brothers, Lucius and Martinette Gilliam; and aunt, Annie Mae Gilliam.

Remembrance of Love service will be held, 1 P.M., Monday, June 12, 2023 at the Chapel of Bland Funeral Home, 137 Harrison St., Petersburg, VA, 23803, Rev. Robert Barnes, officiate. Family will assemble 12:30 P.M., on the day of service.
