May 3, 1953 – February 23, 2023

Ms. Eva Mae Campbell, affectionately known as “Pookie” or “Ms. Eva,” peacefully departed this life at Bon Secours Southside Medical Center on Thursday, February 23, 2023.
She was born May 3, 1953, to the late Mr. Walter Peter Rives, Jr. and Mrs. Bettie Lee Rives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. Walter Peter Rives, Sr. and Mrs. Mildred H. Rives and brother, Theodore Rives. She was a native of Dinwiddie County, VA, but later made Petersburg her home. Ms. Eva Mae received her education in Dinwiddie County School System and graduated from Dinwiddie High School, Class of 1973. At an early age she confessed Christ and remained a faithful servant. Early in life, she was a long-time employee of Titmus Optical.
Left to cherish her memory: two children, son, Kenneth Brown (Crystal) of Prince George, VA, and daughter, Zekita Campbell of Petersburg, VA; six grandchildren, Kentia Flythe (Ron), Leslie Brown, Jailyn Campbell, Maiyah Tucker, Zion Self, and Abundance Self; three great-grandchildren Qu’mari Flythe, Kai’Ron Flythe, and Lauryn Flythe;one sister, Mildred Goode of Petersburg, VA; two brothers, William E. Rives, Sr. (Betty) of Chester, VA and Samuel Rives of Petersburg, VA; one step daughter, April Campbell of Petersburg, VA; one sister-in-law, Kate Rives of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Ms. Eva Mae was loved by many, and she will be greatly missed. She had an infectious spirit and took great pleasure in making people smile. She lived her life to the fullest and expressed her joy by creating art and sharing it with others. There was not a stranger that she met that she did not impact their life in some manner.
Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Third Baptist Church, 550 Farmer Street, Petersburg, VA. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
