Eugenia Harris Fowlkes

Eugenia H. Fowlkes, 80, of Petersburg, VA, passed away on May 11, 2022, at Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA. She was born to the late Reverend Eugene Harris and Annie Mae Thomas Harris of Petersburg, VA. Ms. Fowlkes was educated in Chesterfield County Schools and baptized at an early age.

She was a former member of First Baptist Church, Harrison Street and Third Baptist Church, both of Petersburg, VA. She retired as a custodial worker from Kenner Army Hospital at Fort Lee after 33 years.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Thomas Fowlkes, Jr.; parents, Reverend Eugene and Annie Mae Harris; siblings, brothers James, Percy, Benjamin, Marion and Oscar; and her sisters, Marlene Wilkins and Jennie Mae Tucker.

Ms. Fowlkes is survived by her five children, Brenda Davis (Theodore) of Virginia Beach, VA, Angela M. Harris, Wanda E. Mallory, April D. Cherry, and Thomas Fowlkes III (Yolanda) all of Petersburg. She also leaves to cherish her memory: fourteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Cassie Ruffin and Susie Branch of Petersburg, VA, and Theresa Ramey of Tennessee; one sister-in-law, Mildred F. Robertson of Petersburg, VA; four brothers-in-law, William E. Wilkins, James Branch, Jr. and James A. Fowlkes, Sr. all of Petersburg, VA, and Frank Ruffin, Sr. of Philadelphia, PA;along with a host of nieces and nephews, one devoted caregiver niece, Charlotte Ann Dean; and a devoted friend, Ella Robinson of Petersburg, VA.

Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Third Baptist Church, 550 Farmer Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Rebecca Branch-Griffin, eulogist.  The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
