Mr. Eddie L. Freeman affectionately known as “Tommie”, departed this life on July 26, 2022 at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital, Richmond, VA. He was born on June 2, 1944 in Yale Virginia, the son of the late Lee K. Freeman and Mary B. Turner. He joined the New Hope Baptist Church at an early age.
Tommie was educated in Sussex County Public School System, Class of 1963. Before his death, he was gainfully employed for 37 years at Securitas Security Services, Richmond, Virginia. He worked 21 years for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company, Petersburg Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert “Carnell” Freeman and Joseph “Bubba” Freeman; three sisters, Jean C. Freeman, Mary Edith Freeman, and Mattie “Mickey” Glisson.
Tommie leaves to cherish his loving wife, Elnora P. Freeman of Petersburg, Virginia; a daughter, Shawn E. Gray (George) of Stafford, Virginia; three grandsons, Terron A. Gray of Hopewell, Virginia, George S. Gray of Orlando, Florida, and Tae Woods of Lynchburg, Virginia; four great grandchildren, Termarien “ Tigger” Gray of Battle Creek, Michigan, Najila “GG” Gray of Columbus, Ohio, Nova “Lil Suga” Gray of Hopewell, Virginia, and Matteo “Grayson” Gray of Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters, Mildred “Sissy” Hines (Marshall deceased) of Yale, Virginia and Dorothy “Ann” Clinkscales of Yale, Virginia; one brother Harland ”Whimpy” Freeman of Yale, Virginia; a sister-in-law Mary E Mack (MacArthur deceased) of Tyler, Texas; a devoted niece (Marsha “ Lyne” Granderson) of Petersburg, Virginia who referred to him fondly as Uncle Daddy; a host of niece and nephews who treasured their uncle dearly; a host of cousins, friends, and neighbors.
Services will be held 3:00 PM., Saturday, July 30, 2022 at New Hope Baptist Church, 18183 Old Forty Road, Waverly, VA, the Rev. Jameson K. McLaughlin, Pastor and Rev. C. Liz Minor, eulogist. The interment to follow at the Freeman’s Family Cemetery, Yale VA.
