December 31, 1937 – June 11, 2023
Morris, Doris Terrell, 85, of Chester, departed this life on Sunday, June 11, 2023.
She was the youngest of eight children, born to Moncrieff and Meta Terrell. She was a lifelong resident of Chester and graduated from Chester High School.
She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Reginald (1992); brothers, Moncrieff Jr., Alan, and Charles; sisters, Juanita, Mabel, and Jacquelin.
She is survived by her sons, Reginald P., Daniel B. (Susan), Christopher L. O. (Kimberly), and Alan D. (Dawn); six grandchildren, Nikki (Brian), Will, Mia, Morgan, Bode, and Brinley; two great-grandchildren, Eliza and Will. Also surviving is her brother, Joe; and a host of extended relatives.
Doris enjoyed being a homemaker, supporting her community, traveling the world – but mostly spending time with her family and friends. When her world was shattered with her husband, Reggie’s passing in 1992, she reignited friendships from High School, traveled to far off lands like Greece, Italy, Scotland, and Alaska, while keeping her family nourished with her strength, leadership, and guidance. She never stopped supporting the community through church, tutoring children after school, and volunteering with Shepherd’s Center. She raised a loving family that still talks daily – each night at 7 p.m. on FaceTime – a tradition born from the pandemic and carried on with love. She was ever present for her grandkids and great-grandkids – planting trees, making art, and not minding when art got inevitably messy, fishing for leaves, attending grandkids book clubs and reading over the phone. Through every phase of her life, she would reinvent herself and learn how to thrive. Her example will live on through her family and their admiration for her strength, love and devotion.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Chester Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Doris Morris.
