Doris H. Jennings of Disputanta, VA, went to her home in heaven on Sunday, February 5, 2023. Doris was born on March 15, 1934 in Disputanta, VA, to Ernest and Annie Jackson. She leaves behind siblings, Hazel of Matthews, NC; Ethel spouse William of Portsmouth, VA; Cecil spouse Ernestine of Las Vegas, NV; and Leon spouse Sharon of Disputanta, VA. Doris was predeceased by siblings, Earl, Rudy, Marva, Ernestine, June, and Brenda.
Doris is survived by her children, Deborah of Yonkers, NY; Serita of Prince George, VA; Victor of Prince George, VA; and Gail of Richmond, TX. Doris was predeceased by her children, Hollis Jr. and Boris. She was previously married to Hollis Sr. (deceased).
Doris was a devoted grandma and leaves behind nine grandchildren, Jenelle, Chemaine, Tai, Sasha, Jonathan, Quincy, Jasmine, Jeroni and Jai’la and eleven great-grandchildren, Davon “DJ”, Aaron, Tyson, Xavier, Alexander “AJ”, Santana, Sani, Nyla, Jada, Destiny and Journey.
Doris attended the Prince George School district and attended Virginia State College (University) as an art major. She moved to Long Island, NY, where she married and had six children and resided in Amityville. Later, the family moved to Ossining, NY. Doris was employed by Cedar Manor Nursing Home for over 20 years as a Nursing Assistant.
As a Girl Scout Leader, she took her troop on a trek to Wyoming. Mrs. Jennings loved all children, and though she had six of her own, it was normal for the neighbor’s children to be at the house on any given day. An enthusiastic lover of flowers, and gardening Mrs. Jennings could be found working in her yard until dark in the spring and summer months. She loved coloring in her coloring books and being the creative person that she was, designed beautiful beaded bracelets for family and friends. Doris was also the Church Mother at Loving Union Baptist Church.
Being a humble, classy lady, she had a surprisingly colorful sense of humor. Doris was an avid doll collector. She would proudly show visitors her substantial doll collection, which were in every room of her home. When Doris retired, she returned to Disputanta, VA and she enjoyed her mini-farm where she had rabbits, chickens and guineas. She leaves behind her beloved dog, Nina.
Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Loving Union Baptist Church, 16750 Loving Union Road, Disputanta, VA, the Rev. Dr. Sylvia K. Tucker, Pastor, eulogist. The interment to follow in the church cemetery.
