July 5, 1994 – July 31, 2023

Devan Shaquell Busby started his life on July 5, 1994, he was born to Yonna S. Bradley (Sanderson) and Genie R. Busby in Fairbanks, Alaska at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. Devan departed to Heaven on July 31, 2023. He was loved by so many and will always be remembered by his mother as her “Devan-doo.”

Devan spent his younger years in Alaska and moved to Virginia in 2000 with his mother. He attended Hopewell Public Schools until he moved to Prince George County where he completed high school.

He was preceded in death by his paternal great grandparents, William H. Sanderson, Sr. and Dorothy Downs; and his maternal great grandparents, Betty L. Smith and Jimmie T. Green.

Devan loved laughing and he knew how to light up a room. He was independent and always wanted to live life on his terms. More than anything, Devan loved to help others. He was like a brother to many that knew him and it was not unusual to find Devan helping someone in need; even if it meant he went without.

Devan’s heart was so full and he had dreams of becoming a restaurant owner and having a kennel. He enjoyed spending summers in Alaska with his grandparents and even told his Grandma she couldn’t be in the “Good Buddy Club” because that was reserved for him and his “Papa” — their motto was: “Friends ‘Till the End.” Devan was an excellent drummer and artist and he loved James Patterson books. He leaves behind paintings and drawings that will be cherished forever.

Devan was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal great grandparents; and his best friend, Darian. Devan had a relationship with Jesus Christ and the family’s only comfort is knowing he is now resting safely in His arms.

Devan was the oldest of three sons to his mother, Yonna Bradley. He leaves behind his daughter, Ariella “Stinky” Ratliff. He was the grandson, of William H. and Chrya Sanderson, brother of Antonio Gonzalez and Kenneth Bradley, Jr., nephew of Sherman Sanderson and William A. Sanderson (Cassandra), Derek and Lasetha Murray, and Sharon Napper. He leaves behind aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends too numerous to list, and he will be missed by all.
