June 18, 1980 – July 26, 2023

David-Matheu Marc Pettaway affectionately known as, “DP”, 43, of North Dinwiddie, VA, entered eternal life and peace on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Bon Secours Southside Medical Center, Petersburg, VA. He was born June 18, 1980, to Davian Pettaway and Allen Ray Moody. David received his education in Petersburg and Dinwiddie Public School Systems and with St. Joseph Catholic School. Since early childhood DP has carried a passion for cars, heavy machinery, especially dump trucks and received his Class A CDL license in 2003 with plans of operating his own business. David was a dedicated supervisor of TDT, Chester, VA until his health began to decline.
David was a very loving, kind-hearted, funny, loving son, companion, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. His happiest moments were when he was spending time with his mom and the love of his life, Niecy as he called her, over the past 28 years. DP’s proudest moments was watching his sons grow into young men and the many talks they shared. For years, he has shared a brotherhood filled with kickbacks amongst his Mansfield friends. He loved attending family gatherings, playing video games, sports, and reminiscing on the good times. Then, there were his boastful days of raving as a die-hard Golden State Warriors fan.
David was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, David L. Pettaway and Gertrude Virginia Tucker; maternal great grandmother, Ethel Bryant and his paternal grandparents, Donnell and Frances Moody. In addition to a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He leaves cherished memories to and is survived by his devoted parents, Davian Pettaway of North Dinwiddie, VA and Allen Ray Moody (Rebecca) of Hopewell, VA; two loving and precious sons, Colito Pettaway (Aniyah) of Petersburg, VA and Tylique Pettaway of North Dinwiddie, VA; his passionate and devoted significant other and caregiver, Shaletha Battle; one caring brother, Allen Ray Moody, Jr. of Hopewell, VA; one sister, Sharae Moody (Joe) of Fredericksburg, VA; three aunts, Joy Pettaway of Nevada, Ida Pettaway of California, and Rochelle Taylor of Missouri; mother-in-love, Mona Battle of NC; one brother-in-love, Bryan Battle of Petersburg, VA; one sister-in-love, Capris Battle of NC; two nephews, Josiah of Fredericksburg, VA and Dejan Oliver of North Carolina; two nieces, Brielle Snead and Malai Oliver of NC; great-great aunts, Nell Thomas of Petersburg, VA, Juanita Bland of Hopewell, VA, and Ann Brown of Petersburg, VA; and a host of cousins, among those devoted, Terrance Porter of Los Angeles, CA; Carl Cooper, Yvette Graves-Evans (James) and Lacey Mitchell; devoted and caring friends, Shelton “Bob” Bonner, Dion and Shawn Ridley, Joshua “Jo-Jo” Mason, Terrell Darling, Matthew Perkins, Ray and Tateika Jackson, Demarreo Walker, Vikisha and Kyesha Smith, Deborah Booth and the Mansfield Crew; and three godchildren, Ky’Ron, Karma, and Maximus Bonner.
