September 21, 1958 – May 15, 2023

On this day we celebrate the home going of our beloved, Mr. Darryl Turner affectionately known as “D”, comforted by his wife, slipped into eternal rest on Monday, May 15, 2023 at Bon Secours Southside Medical Center, Petersburg, Virginia.

Mr. Turner was born September 21, 1958 in Brooklyn, New York, where he graduated from Eastern District High School in Williamsburg, New York.

Darryl was a prolific writer, who really enjoyed music, boxing and spending time with his cherished grandson.

He is the only son of the late Isabelle Tuner and one of six children of the late Bobby Byrd.  Darryl leaves to cherish his precious memories to his loving wife, Nadine Turner of Petersburg, Virginia; a loving daughter, Tandeca Turner of Oakland, California; a beloved grandson, Preston Moon Whitaker of Oakland, California; a step-daughter, Tyesha Peak (Cortney) of Charlotte, North Carolina; two stepsons, Amir Byrd and Xavion Lane; three sisters-in-law, Tony Proffit Wimberly, Vonetta Proffitt and Domita Banks; three brothers, Petri Byrd of Sacramento, California, Mario Byrd and Sukele Byrd (deceased); one sister, Donna Byrd of Buffalo, New York; one aunt, Norma Lloyd; two uncles, Thomas and Irving Turner of Brooklyn, New York; devoted cousins, Wanda Heath, Baron Lloyd, Robert “PeeWee” Lloyd and Melvin, Jr.

“From this world of pain and sorrow to the land of peace and rest; God has taken our dear loved one, where he’ll find eternal rest, God knew that he was suffering and the wills were hard to climb, so he closed his weary eyelids and whispered peace be thine.”

A memorial service will be held 7:00 P.M., Saturday, May 20, 2023 in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishemnt, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Herbert Holly II, eulogist.
