February 23, 1929 – June 19, 2023

On Monday, June 19, 2023, God, in his infinite wisdom, called home Claiborne M. Mosby, Sr., 94, of Exter Mill Road, Chesterfield, Virginia. 

Claiborne was born to the late Deacon Sam Thomas Mosby, Sr., and Deaconess Mildred A. Mosby. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie B. Mosby; son, Claiborne M. Mosby, Jr.; three sisters, Daisey E. Lee, Annie M. Spencer and Margaret R. Surley; three brothers, Lloyd Mosby, John Mosby and Harvey G. Mosby.  

Claiborne was baptized at an early age and was a former member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Chesterfield, VA. He worked at a saw mill and later worked in construction, until his retirement. Claiborne was an “Outdoor Man” and loved working outside in his yard and keeping everything neat and clean. He also loved watching wrestling and cowboy shows.

He leaves to cherish is memory: four sons, Bobby Brown (Sheretta) of Huber Heights, OH, James Mosby (Sheila) of Petersburg, VA,  Don Mosby of Dinwiddie, VA and Paul Mosby of Chesterfield, VA; four daughters, Theresa Parker of Douglasville, GA, Gloria Rice of Colonial Heights, VA, Betty Rives (William) of Chester, VA and Lisa Scott of Chesterfield, VA; five sisters, Mabel Lewis (Charlie), Carrie Booker, Ruth Coleman, Linda Lewis (Rite), Novella Jones (James) and Mable Lewis (Charlie); two brothers, Dennis Mosby and Thomas Mosby, Jr.(Lisa); twenty-three grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two grand cats, Trax and Skit whom he called “Big Mama” (who preceded him in death); and a host of other relatives and friends to include devoted Tony Evans and James T. Branch. Special acknowledgement to his children Lisa, Paul and Betty that served as his devoted caregivers.

Services will be held 12 Noon, Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Community Independent Methodist Church, 12033 River Road, Chesterfield, VA, the Rev. Pate Pearson, Pastor, eulogist. The interment to follow at The Lewis Family Cemetery.
