June 11, 1952 – May 7, 2023

Celebrating the life of Charmaine D. Sedgwick, age 70, who passed away peacefully at home. Charmaine was born June 11, 1952, in Petersburg Virginia. She attended Petersburg Public Schools and continued her education in Job Corp. where she graduated with a GED. 

She continued her education in nursing earning a CNA certificate. She also worked many years for the Army Air Force Exchange Service and traveled overseas. Her last position was with Prince George County Public School System in Maryland. 

She was also a loyal and dedicated member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Petersburg, VA, serving on the Usher Board. As a devout woman of God, Charmaine followed the Order as an Eastern Star.

Charmaine was a people person and happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She loved to entertain and cook down-home meals. She was hard-working, determined and courageous. She lived life to its fullest.

Charmaine is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward M Sedgewick; parents, Mary Graves, and Willie T. Jones, Sr.; grandmother, Annie Cain; four sisters and four brothers; and her aunt, Gladys Smith.

She is survived by two daughters, Sherryta Sedgwick of Mount Rainier, MD, and Crystal Sedgwick of Washington, DC; siblings, Bridget McMullen, Nadine Williams, and Everard Jones all of Petersburg VA, Pamlin Brown of Colonial Heights VA, Connie Hope (Alvin) of Richmond, VA, Steven Jones (Maria), Gladys Webb of Prince George VA, Ricky Jones of Dinwiddie, VA, Dalphine Ricks (Larry) of Portsmouth, VA. Sarah Velazquez (Eddie), Ray Artis III (Wanda) of Norfolk, VA, Clyde Hicks of New York; cousins, Clarence, Jane, Perryetta, Shirley and Junie Smith  of Schenectady, NY; loyal friends, Jackie Johnson (Fletcher), Annette Jones (Charles) and Lynette Fitzgerald of North Carolina, Myra Granby, Sharon (Authur) Hungerford, Diane Graves, Dale Parran, and Donna Miles all of Maryland; one brother-in-law, Casper L. Sedgwick, of Washington; DC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Last but not least, her most prized possession, “Baby”.

Services will be held 12:00 Noon, Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2223 South Crater Road, Petersburg, VA, Bishop Jeffrey L. Reaves, Sr., Pastor and eulogist. The interment will be held 2:30 P.M., Monday, June 5, 2023, at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, June 2, 2023 at the funeral establishment.
