August 20, 1933 – June 19, 2023

Charlie Lee Moody, 89, of Petersburg VA, entered eternal life on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Riverview on the Appomattox in Hopewell, VA. He was born in Prince George, VA on August 20, 1933, to the late Oscar Jones Sr. and Gertrude Moody.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Moody; stepfather, Ben Johnson Moody; stepmother, Hester Jones; daughter, Charlette Moody; daughter-in-law, Joyce Gholson; son-in-law, Malcolm Bolling; brother, Allen Moody; brother-in-law, Willie Lee Carr; stepbrothers, Oscar Jr, Herbert Lee, Eugene, Ronnie and Lewis Jones; and his stepsister, Shirley Jones Crockett.
At an early age, Charlie accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and joined Mount Moriah United Church of Christ in Homeville, VA, where he served as a Deacon for many years. Charlie was a proud graduate of Disputanta High School, Class of 1952. He served in the United States Army for 3 years and retired from the Army National Guard Reserves after 25 years. He also retired from Firestone after 35 years of dedicated service.
Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, fishing, hunting, and dining at his favorite restaurants, Golden Corral, Waffle House and Quick Lunch. He also had a special place in his heart for his granddaughter, Lauryn Powell, as he called her “Wee-Wee”.
Charlie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. To cherish his memories, he leaves: one son, Charles Gholson; two stepdaughters, Vicki Bolling and Jennsye Goodson (Thaddis); stepson, James “JT” Greene; seven grandchildren, Charles Pettaway, L. Donell Powell, LaToya B. Hairston (Demetrus), Tyra Bolling, Lauryn Powell, Ta’Kierra Edmonds, Jalen Cherry and bonus granddaughter, Denae Powell; five great grandchildren, Lyric Powell, Lawrence “DJ” Powell, Demetrus Hairston, Jr., Layla Hairston and Au’vee Lewis; two sisters, Rebecca Carr and Margie Jones Claiborne; brother, Jerome Jones (Tineka); sister-in-law, Marion Clarke (Melvin); devoted friends, Deacon James Parker and family and Deacon Claude Chalmers and family; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 30, 2023, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs, Sr., eulogist. The interment to follow at Virginia Veterans Cemetery.
