Charles Shelton Blount, age 74, of Petersburg, VA, passed away peacefully at his home on April 18, 2023. He was born and raised in Sussex County, VA, on March 16, 1949.
Charles attended Central High School and graduated in 1967. Immediately after graduating, he joined the workforce and became employed with Brown and Williamson until they relocated in 1986. Thereafter, he started working with the Department of Corrections in 1988 at Richmond Penitentiary until they relocated to Greensville Correctional Center, Jarratt, VA. He was a dedicated employee until he retired in 2014 after 26 years of service.
Charles enjoyed racing fast cars, spending time with his family and talking junk. He was also a member of the King David Masonic Lodge #3, Lawrenceville, VA.
Charles was preceded to glory by his beloved wife of 32 years, Belinda Wyche Blount; his one and only son, Charles Jarrod Blount; his parents, Willie and Hessie Green Blount; paternal grandparents, Jessie Freeman Blount; brothers, Willie (Mary) and Thomas (Sally); sister, Bertha Blount Jackson Calloway; and a host of his aunts and uncles.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Shanique Blount-Jones (Ivey) of Petersburg, VA; sister, Josephine Blount-Logan of Chesterfield, VA; sister-in-law, Sherron Hattie Wyche of Petersburg, VA; grandchildren, Breon, Dajiah and VyShawn Jones (devoted) all of Petersburg, VA, Amelia Meade of Richmond, VA and Charles Jr. of Chesterfield, VA; great grandchildren, Elijah, Amiya and Antoine Meade all of Richmond, VA and Gracie Blount of Petersburg, VA; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 26, 2023, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Linda Skipper, eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
