August 17, 1937 – July 22, 2023

CAROL RUSSELL DEAN, 85, of Disputanta, VA, and formally of Hopewell, VA, joined her beloved husband, Louie, in Heaven, on July 22, 2023. Her passing was unexpected as she was showing great signs of improvement following some setbacks in the fall of 2022. Born August 17, 1937, in Manhattan, NY, to Annie Elsie Bresko Russell and James Joseph Russell, she was the oldest of two daughters. Following the untimely death of her father, Carol, her sister, Arlene, and her mother, Annie, moved back to Virginia settling in Hopewell. This area was chosen due to its location and the ailing health of her grandparents who resided on the family farm, Three Springs, in Prince George County.

Throughout her youth in Hopewell, Carol attended public schools where she excelled at her academics; having a keen interest in business studies. It was at Hopewell High School that she met the love of her life, Louie Dean, and they were married in April of 1957. Carol and Louie were together in this life for over 60 years and are now reunited in Heaven forever. Attending a sporting event or traveling on a cruise no doubt…

Carol started her employment journey while in high school when she served as an office assistant for a local Hopewell attorney. Following high school graduation, she decided against pursuing a career with the FBI as plans for marriage loomed and she accepted a position in the Purchasing Department with Reynolds Metals Corporation at their Chesterfield facility. She stepped out briefly for the birth of her son, Randy, and then progressed through various positions in the Main Office at Continental Can and Stone Container (now Rock 10). Carol was determined to have it all; a family and a career. With much hard work, grit, determination, and support she achieved this goal. Carol retired with over 30 years of service from this Hopewell Paper Manufacturer and, at the point of her retirement, she was working in the Accounts Payable Department as a Section Head.

In the late 1970’s Carol, Louie, and son Randy returned to her beloved homeplace, Three Springs, in Prince George County. She was so very proud of the fact that she owned and lived on an actively producing farm that, as of 2023, has been in her family for well over 100 years and is currently designated by the State of Virginia as a “Virginia Century Farm.”

Carol is survived by her son, Randy and daughter-in-law, Dorothy; a special niece, Darlene whom she considered to be her surrogate daughter; and many other nieces and nephews as well as their families. She impacted each of them greatly and her memory will live on in all of them for eternity.

A Chapel Service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 2 pm, in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be private.

The Family is being assisted by J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home – Hopewell Chapel and condolences may be added on their website. Should you desire, the Family encourages you to donate, in Carol’s loving memory, to The Humane Society of the United States or your local ASPCA Organization.
