Anna Lee Harris Wheat was born October 25, 1929 in Charles City County, Virginia to the late Fred Harris and Hazel Wyatt Harris. The LORD called her home on May 11, 2022 at her residence in Hopewell, Virginia.
Anna Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Herbert L. Wheat, Sr. and by three of her daughters: Antoine “Twan” Wheat, Debbie Wheat, and Valeria Pricilla Wheat and five of her younger brothers: Robert, Alfred, Louis, Leon, and John Harris.
She is survived by her daughter Reverend Doctor Dorothy Wheat Crockett and her son Herbert L. Wheat, Jr (Arnette), her sister Gloria Harris Boone (Jesse) and her brothers Richard and Virgil Harris (Valerie), eight grandchildren, William “Billy” (Deandra), Cordell (Michelle), Kevin, LeAnn (Derek), Herbert III “Trey,” Marshall, Shannan (Sentell), and Malik; nine great grandchildren, Darius Sr., Sadiyah, Davonte, Cordell II, Mikala, Jada, Jordyn, Zoe, & Ari, five great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law Phyllis Harris, two goddaughters Dawn Thomas Patrick and Kim Lee, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and “adopted” children and grandchildren.
Anna Lee was a wonderful seamstress and domestic engineer for several prominent families in Hopewell, Virginia before working at the Firestone factory for 30 years in Hopewell. She was also a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of City Point in Hopewell, Virginia for over 70 years where she served in the Mass Choir and the Made To Be Worshippers Ministry. Anna Lee was always known for her many facial expressions, one-liner jokes, ability to make people smile and laugh without even trying, and her willingness to help family, friends, and strangers without expecting anything in return.
The family would like to give special thanks and recognition to three caregivers who were important in looking after Anna Lee when she was in declining health: Helen Jones, Charmaine Brown, and Carol Brown.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of City Point in Hopewell, Virginia, on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. The family requests that casual attire be worn to the service. The family also requests that there be no visitation to the residence all day Wednesday so that they may have the time to grieve privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of City Point in care of the “Made To Be Worshippers Ministry” in memory of Anna Lee Harris Wheat.
