April 28, 1989 – June 20, 2023

On Tuesday, June 20, 2023, God called our guardian angel, Alexis DeToya Butts, to her heavenly home.

Born April 28, 1989, in Petersburg, VA, to Sandra O. and Kevin Butts, Alexis was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend.

Alexis spent her childhood in Prince George, VA, where she was a Girl Scout Troop 360 member and played softball with Prince George Parks and Recreation.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Abundant Life Christian Church in Spring Grove, VA, where she later served as the Financial Secretary and sang in the youth choir. During her high school tenure, she was a junior volunteer at VCU Health Systems, volunteering her time as a pharmacy tech, and continued in the gift shop and the cafeteria.

A 2007 Prince George High School graduate, she continued her education at Virginia State University, earning her Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Sociology in 2012. Upon graduation, Alexis was employed at VCU Health Systems as an IT Administrative Assistant. She furthered her employment with the Prince George Public School System as a substitute teacher/office assistant until her health began to fail.

Alexis was active in her community. She cherished her family and loved spending time with them. She served on the Greeter’s Ministry at Destination Church, Hopewell, VA, where she met a group of exciting believers and friends. Even during days of pain and the struggle to walk, she greeted with a smile and welcomed those who entered.

Though Alexis had many titles and accomplishments, she was most proud to carry the title of Mom. Her daughter was her world, and she would beam with pride at the mention of her. She was also actively involved as a “dance mom,” “cheer mom,” and “softball mom.”

We will never forget Alexis. She was a fighter and has now earned her reward in heaven with our heavenly Father. While our hearts are saddened, we rest and find peace knowing she is no longer in pain.

She was preceded in death by special great-grandparents, Percy and Ruth Charity; maternal grandfather, Hardy E. Osborne; paternal grandmother, Mildred C. Butts; and two aunts, Karen and Kim Butts.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, who was her pride and joy, Taliyah Faith Butts; her parents, Kevin and Sandra Osborne Butts; two sisters, Christal Butts and Kanira Butts; maternal grandmother, Dorothy C. Osborne; paternal grandfathers, Preston Bailey and Carol Lee Butts; devoted aunt who was like a second mother, Barbara O. Allen (Ronnie); three aunts, Rhonda O. Green (Larry), Debra J. Osborne, and Kim Bailey; two uncles, Gregory Osborne (Sharon) and Hardy A. Osborne; cousins who were like sisters, Sherita Green, Keyontra Butts, and Candace Osborne; two devoted friends, Danielle Greene and Aquila Jenkins-Bey; and a host of other great aunts, great uncles, cousins, friends and her fur baby, Max.

Services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Abundant Life Christian Church, 784 Cabin Point Road, Spring Grove, VA, Pastor Leon Pettaway, eulogist. The interment to follow at the church cemetery.
