July 17, 1957 – July 13, 2023

Aaron A. Scott Sr., age 68, of Serenity Manor at Liberty 35 W. Filmore St. Peterburg, VA, entered eternal rest Thursday, July 13, 2023, at his residence. Aaron was a product of the Delectable Heights Community in Petersburg, VA. He was educated in the Petersburg Public school System and was a graduate of Petersburg High School Class of 1972. He would later go on to get his bachelor’s degree at Virginia State University.

Aaron accepted Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Petersburg, VA where he served on the Deacon Board, played bass guitar, and sang in the male chorus. He later moved his membership to Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Charles City, VA, where he continued to serve in the male chorus until his health declined.

Aaron served in the United States Air force in 1973 until he was honorably discharged. He served the city of Peterburg in various capacities throughout his life ranging from firefighter to arson specialist. Upon completion of his bachelor’s degree, he served in the Human Services field as a Program Specialist at SVTC until his health declined.

Aaron was preceded in death by his mother, Mae Francis Scott; father, Benjamin Leffie Scott; brother, Benjamin Alexander Gilliam; grandparents, Marvin and Emma Gilliam; aunts, Lucy Wells, Gloria Crossland and Barbara Tucker; and his uncles, Willie Gilliam, Daniel Gillam, Basie Gilliam and Abraham Gilliam.

Aaron leaves to cherish his memory his wife, JoAnn Scott; five children, Arnell Scott, Natasha Scott, Donzell Goodwyn, Aaron “AJ” Scott, Jr. (Demetria), and Andrew Scott; one brother, Leffie Scott (Petrice); one sister, Cheryl Taylor (Jerome); seven grandchildren, Briana Henderson, Nycari Scott, Destiny Goodwyn, David Goodwyn, Darius Goodwyn, Dejrick Goodwyn, and Amaiya Scott; one great grandchild, Atua Lewis; aunts, Helen Dabney and Florence Gilliam; uncles, Barry Gilliam (Shirley), Dr. Hayward Gilliam (Audrey), Andrew Gilliam (Sherry) and Leo Scott; nieces and nephews, Jamece Hobbs, Jamell Scott, Latica, Lashawn, Erica, Carlton, Anita, Nicholas, Gayonty and Marcus; and a host of cousin, other relatives and numerous friends.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 29, 2023, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, Pastor F. Wayne Henley, eulogist.
