August 9, 1953 – April 13, 2023

Richmond “Bubba” L. Parker Jr., 69, of Hopewell, Virginia, passed away on April 13, 2023. Bubba was born in Sussex County to the late Richmond Sr. and Mary Parker on August 9, 1953. He graduated from Central High School in 1971. That same year, he met Lynette and their union lasted for over 51 years. They had two children, Curtis and DeShaun. They later married and enjoyed over 39 years of marital bliss.

Bubba was always authentically himself and a strong presence in any room he entered. He said what he meant and meant what he said, and he loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends. He was always there for them, whether he was helping them diagnose car issues or cheering on his children and grandchildren at sporting events. Bubba was an avid bowler who was well-known for his jovial nature, perfect games, and quick wit. He was inducted into the Appomattox River USBC Hall of Fame for Superior Performance in 2015.

Bubba worked for his beloved employer Old Dominion Tire Services, Inc. in Midlothian, VA for more than 20 years before his health began to decline.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lynette Graves Parker; two children, Curtis Graves (Jennifer) and DeShaun Parker (Mia); one adopted child, Kim Meekins (Byron); three sisters, Mary Eliza Parker, Carlene Fogg (Steve) and Iris Westbrook (Calvin); one adopted sister, Agnes Brown (Clarence); eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Emily Graves; two sisters-in-law, Ardel Cooper (Curvey) and Katherine Spratley; two brothers-in-law, John Graves and Frank Graves, Jr. (Yolanda); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Monday, April 24, 2023, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. William Roberts, eulogist. The interment to follow at the Mt. Moriah United Church of Christ Cemetery.
