October 4, 1949 – June 30, 2023

Ola Bailey Rice of Prince George, Virginia our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend departed this life on Friday, June 30, 2023 at her home with her sister at her beside. Ola attended public school in Surry County and graduated from Luther Porter Jackson High School and also attend Norfolk State University.  She retired from the federal government with the Department of Defense-Fort Gregg-Adams Army Base in Fort Lee, Virginia.

Ola was baptized at an early age at St. Mark Holiness Church in Dendron, Virginia. She joined Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and was very active in her membership until her health declined.

Ola was born to the late John W. Bailey and Avis L. Bailey in Waverly, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her late husbands, James Jones and Edwin Rice; eleven siblings, brothers, Norman Bailey, Wallace Bailey, Irvin Bailey, Percell Bailey and Payton Bailey and her sisters, Helen Harris, Esther Evans, Lillian Jackson, Avis McKnight, Millie Lyttle and Hazel Pierce. 

Ola’s legacy will live on by the cherished memories of her son, Brian Jones (Kisha) and granddaughter, Bri’Yanni Jones; brothers, Preston Bailey and Henderson Bailey; sister, Alvinia Thomas (Willie); sister-in-law, Gerline Bailey; special friend, Enoch Nottingham; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Mount Olivet Baptist Church, 800 Augusta Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Wesley K. McLaughlin, Pastor, eulogist. The interment to follow at The Bailey Family Cemetery.
