March 7, 1949 – July 3, 2023

Herbert Howard was born in Petersburg, Virginia, on March 7, 1949 to Blanch Howard and Robert Howard. He attended Virginia Avenue Elementary School and Peabody High School.

Nick as he was affectionately known loved fishing, riding his bike, listening and singing Oldies but Goodies music. Herbert also loved to joke and laugh with everybody especially his wife.  

Herbert met Margritt in 1973. They were joined in Holy Matrimony in 1998 and they have been together by each other’s side ever since.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Blanch Howard; father, Robert Howard; and his brothers, McKinley Howard, Robert Howard and Richard Howard.

Herbert leaves to cherish his memories: a loving wife, Margritt Howard; children, Yvonne Johnson, Herbert Johnson, Alfredia Ogburn, Laquannda and Marie Howard; grandchildren, Rasheem Johnson, Kaeela Johnson, Ju’elz Anderson, Ja’lonney Anderson and Journee Anderson; great grandchildren, Markael Simms and Markaela Simms; one sister, Mary Rose Kershaw (Richard); one brother, Charles Howard (Monica); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, July 8, 2023, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
