Freddie Lee Hunter, 71, of 1837 Lamar Avenue, Petersburg, Virginia, departed this life on Monday, May 9, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on October 4, 1949 to Betsy Hunter and Dennis Hunter, Sr. in the Petersburg, Virginia.
Freddie grew up in the Blandford Community and attended Petersburg Public Schools System where he graduated from Peabody High School. He was a hardworking devoted husband and father up until his last days. He retired from Manchester Tank after 20 years of service.
Freddie was a member of Third Baptist Church where he attended faithfully. Freddie had a strong faith in God and God kept him as long as he could.
Freddie enjoyed listening and dancing to “Oldies But Goodies”. Any opportunity he had to lighten the mood with a joke, he would. His favorite musicians were Otis Redding and The Temptations. You always knew he was home when music echoed from his patio. Freddie’s favorite past time was fishing and playing his numbers. He would often walk to the store where everyone enjoyed his presence. He loved his family dearly
Along with his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Hunter and his sister, Joyce Simmons. Freddie leaves his loving wife of thirty-three years, Lula Hunter; five daughters, LaWanda Fuller (Bernard), Annjeanettee Chavis (George) and Tonie Clanton all of Petersburg, Virginia, Gwen Mohammed (Trevor) of Lanham, Maryland and Abril “Lisa” Clanton of Prince George, Virginia; one son, David Clanton (Gloria) of Yonkers, New York. Freddie also leaves fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren who adored him; two brothers, Dennis Jones (Bertha) of Portsmouth, Virginia, and Hameen Muhammad (Learine) of New York; one brother-in-law Vince Hobbs of McKenney, Virginia; devoted friends, James Faulcon, Mitchell Ross Jr, McArthur Harris, Albert Matthews, Jerome Powell, Marcus Hutcherson and Alvin McKeever and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Monday, May 16, 2022 at Third Baptist Church, 550 Farmer Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. George Wilson, eulogist.
