October 28, 1986 – July 16, 2023

Dexter Vaughn Jackson, Jr. departed this life to be present with our Lord on July 16, 2023, with his loving mother by his side. After a long illness with congestive heart failure, it was with great sadness, our beloved Dexter’s life came to an end at such a young age.

Dexter Vaughn Jackson, Jr. was born on October 18, 1986 to Shela M. Jackson-Damis and Dexter V. Jackson, Sr. in Franklin Square, New York. Dexter attended Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, New York. Later, his family relocated to Richmond, Virginia where he graduated from L.C. Bird High School in Chesterfield, Virginia. Dexter then went on to study Studio Recording Technology at Nassau Community College in Garden City, New York.

The simplest pleasure in life brought Dexter great joy. He was known for having such a great personality, outgoing charisma, wittiness, and sure to put a smile on your face. Dexter was a well-versed person, as he was involved in many different hobbies and sports. While Dexter attended L.C. Bird High School, he played football and later took his skills to college football. After enjoying football at a young age, his love for the field and dedication to ensuring the youth led him to coach for the Elmont Cardinals in Elmont, New York, Malverne High School Junior Varsity Team in Malverne, New York, St. Francis Preparatory High School in Fresh Meadows, New York and Holy Trinity Diocesan High School in Hicksville, New York. Dexter’s dreams within this lifetime were fulfilled by shaping young men into successful adults.

Dexter’s talents were far beyond just sports, he loved to express himself through singing. His voice was very divine and resembled the angels above. Dexter loved to sing while he lived in Virginia. He joined a singing group called, Certified Diamond in high school with his friends. They sang at various venues in Virginia and took those skills learned in college into effect when it came to the group as well. Dexter was also a singer in the youth choir at Sacred Heart Church in Cambria Heights, New York and in the Delta Airlines Choir during his time working at TSA for Laguardia Airport, New York.

Dexter leaves to cherish his memory, his loving mother, Shela M. Jackson-Damis; his father, Dexter Jackson, Sr.,; his devoted sister, Ashley Damis; his “mini-me” niece, Ava Damis; three adoring aunts, six flourishing cousins and two beautiful great-cousins.

He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them and if you knew him, you knew it. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed dearly.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 28, 2023, at New Deliverance Evangelistic Church, 1701 Turner Road, Richmond, VA, Pastor Marcietia S. Glenn and Reverend Herbert Holly II, eulogist. The interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
