On February 7, 2023, our hearts were saddened by the passing of our loved one, Mrs. Delia Benita Claiborne, 70, of 123 N. Plains Drive, Petersburg, VA who passed away at Bon Secours Southside Medical Center following years of medical issues. She was born in Petersburg, VA on June 16,1952 to the late Richard Claiborne, Sr. and Lucille Brown Claiborne.
Delia received her education in the Petersburg Public School System and graduated from Peabody High School in 1970. She continued her education at Virginia State University in the fall of 1970. After completing her studies, she was employed by Philip Morris USA for 30 plus years where she retired in 2012.
Delia was a faithful and loyal member of Zion Baptist Church for the course of her lifetime. She was very active in the community, which included her volunteer work at Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels and Richmond Public Schools, just to name a few.
Along with her parents, Delia was preceded in death by two sisters, Voncille and Kimba Claiborne; and one brother, Ernest “Peda Boy” Brown
She leaves to cherish her legacy and loving memories: one son, Michael Claiborne (Lena) of South Chesterfield, VA; two brothers, Richard Claiborne, Jr. and Tony Claiborne both of Petersburg, VA; devoted nephew, Lee Claiborne of Petersburg, VA; devoted niece, Mica Claiborne of South Chesterfield, VA; two devoted grandchildren, Jakolby Butler of Ohio and Arianna Johnson of South Chesterfield, VA; two nephews, Javon Pegram of Petersburg, VA and Thomas Claiborne of Chesterfield, VA; three devoted cousins, Gloria Cooksey and Tonya Cooksey both of Petersburg, VA and Judy Hawkes of Detroit, MI; one devoted godbrother, Robbie Battle of Richmond, VA; three devoted friends, Alice Richardson (Clifton) of South Chesterfield, VA, Diane Perkins (Robert) of South Chesterfield, VA and Dianna Englehart of Chester, VA; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Delia was a great mentor to numerous young people and a great life friend for many who were blessed to have known her.
Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 16, 2023 at the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
